Understand the Types of College Football Betting

College football betting is a popular pastime in many places, and there are many different ways in which it can be done to lay some chalk. There is the moneyline, point spreads, totals, parlays, teasers and even prop bets that can be placed prior to the start of any event.

The Moneyline

The Moneyline wager is one in which an individual predicts which of the two participating teams will win the event. It is possible to place a stake on either the favorite or the underdog. The favorite typically requires a much larger stake to win while winning underdog predictions can pay off handsomely.

The Point Spread

With the point spread, the goal is to determine the handicap that the favorite will need to overcome in order to win. For example, if a bookmaker says that Denver has a -7 handicap, then this means that it is expected that they will finish with a lead of seven points. If Denver wins by just that amount, it is considered a push. Anything under or over that could result in a payout depending upon where someone puts his or her money.

Totals

A stake on the total, sometimes referred to as an "over/under" is just what the name implies. It is the individual's goal to determine the total number of points that will be scored during the game. For example, if the total is 36, then both teams collectively must score more than that for an over wager to win; conversely, the combined sum must be less than that for an under bet to pay off.

Teasers and Parlays

A teaser is a stake in which an individual is given six points' worth of leeway on a spread. This can help improve odds, but it results in a lower payout. A parlay occurs when someone combines all of the games on which he or she wants to bet into one. The payouts can be huge here, but all of the picks must be correct. This form of college football betting is most popular among experienced gamblers.

All in all, college football betting is a great way to add some excitement to things and perhaps profit a little from paying attention to teams, players and past performances.
